Responsibilities
- Design and operate PostgreSQL clusters at scale, including replication, partitioning, connection pooling, VACUUM tuning, and WAL management.
- Deploy and manage PostgreSQL on Kubernetes using CloudNativePG and Patroni operators, automated failover, persistent storage optimization, and pod disruption budgets.
- Build Ansible-based automation for database provisioning, patching, upgrades, and disaster recovery.
- Optimize pgVector workloads through IVFFlat and HNSW index tuning, dimensionality planning, and approximate-nearest-neighbor search performance improvements.
- Develop sustainable tools for database monitoring, metrics, maintenance, and administration.
- Mentor engineers on PostgreSQL internals and operational best practices.
Requirements
- 10–14 years of database administration and platform engineering experience.
- 6–10+ years of production PostgreSQL experience at scale, including partitioning, logical replication, connection pooling with PgBouncer, pgBackRest, and WAL tuning.
- At least 3 years of Kubernetes experience with stateful workloads, operators, persistent storage design, backup and restore, and multi-cluster patterns.
- At least 3 years building automation frameworks in Python, Bash, and Ansible, including authoring infrastructure rather than only using playbooks.
- Demonstrated experience designing self-service infrastructure.
- Preferred: production pgVector experience with high-dimensional embedding workloads, including RAG and semantic search.
- Preferred: agentic coding or LLM-augmented operations experience, open-source contributions, and Go experience.
