Base Salary

$114k - $183k/yr

Responsibilities

  • Build and enhance CNN Digital Commerce products such as CNN Underscored.
  • Design and implement complex features for customer-facing web applications.
  • Develop testing artifacts and tooling to support growth of the CNN Commerce organization.
  • Identify publishing-platform improvements and recommend features that improve editor workflows and end-user experience.
  • Collaborate across engineering, platforms, editorial, programming, and other teams on audience-growth initiatives.
  • Monitor code health, infrastructure health, and application performance.
  • Improve engineering processes, workflows, and operational practices.
  • Mentor team members and promote effective engineering standards.
  • Evaluate and safely refactor code and technical artifacts.
  • Support short-term content planning processes with editorial and programming teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science, Master of Science, or higher in Computer Science, Software Engineering, another Engineering field, or a related field.
  • 5–10 years of software development experience with a strong focus on application development.
  • At least five years of experience with Node.js, Express, Vue.js, and ES6.
  • Proficiency with modern JavaScript, TypeScript, Python, AWS services, PostgreSQL, Elasticsearch, and Redis.
  • Expertise with Fastly, AWS Serverless Application Model, Kubernetes, Docker, Terraform, Jenkins, Snowflake, and Git.
  • Experience building medium- to large-scale mission-critical and highly available production systems.
  • Strong understanding of software data structures, algorithms, application architecture, databases, operating systems, and networking.
  • Experience with e-commerce, affiliate platforms, consumer media, monitoring, performance, and infrastructure health.
  • Experience with Kanban or Scrum teams, continuous deployment, and incremental delivery.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to explain complex technical issues to non-engineering peers.
  • Experience mentoring, interviewing, and participating in talent acquisition.
  • Experience with non-procedural programming or functional-style concepts is preferred.
  • Two years of object-oriented JavaScript experience is preferred.
