Responsibilities
- Design, develop, deploy, and maintain enterprise APIs using Google Apigee.
- Develop and manage Apigee API proxies, shared flows, policies, reusable integration components, API products, developer applications, environments, deployments, versioning, and lifecycle activities.
- Implement API security mechanisms including OAuth 2.0, JWT, API keys, authentication, authorization, and access control.
- Configure traffic management features such as rate limiting, spike arrest, quotas, caching, and fault handling.
- Design and develop scalable Python applications, RESTful APIs, backend services, integration libraries, automation scripts, and data transformation components.
- Implement asynchronous processing, exception handling, logging, monitoring, performance optimization, resilience, backward compatibility, and enterprise integration patterns.
- Use AI-powered coding agents for code generation, refactoring, debugging, test automation, code reviews, and technical documentation.
- Design prompts and workflows for AI coding agents and integrate AI-assisted development practices into engineering workflows and CI/CD pipelines.
- Review and validate AI-generated code for correctness, security, performance, maintainability, and engineering standards.
- Develop unit, integration, and API tests; troubleshoot API proxy failures, backend connectivity issues, latency, and end-to-end integration defects.
- Participate in technical design discussions, code reviews, architectural decisions, and collaboration with architects, developers, security teams, and business stakeholders.
- Identify opportunities to improve developer productivity through AI-assisted engineering and contribute to engineering best practices.
Requirements
- 7.5+ years of experience.
- Strong hands-on experience with Google Apigee API development and API management, including API proxies, policies, shared flows, and backend integrations.
- Strong Python programming skills covering application development, debugging, testing, and performance optimization.
- Experience with AI-powered coding agents such as Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, or equivalent agentic development tools.
- Understanding of REST APIs, API security, authentication, authorization, enterprise integration patterns, HTTP protocols, JSON/XML payloads, and synchronous and asynchronous integration patterns.
- Experience implementing OAuth 2.0, JWT, API keys, and access control.
- Experience with API traffic management, rate limiting, quotas, caching, API governance, versioning, and lifecycle management.
- Experience developing RESTful APIs and backend services with FastAPI, Flask, or Django.
- Experience with Git, CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and software development best practices.
- Ability to validate AI-generated code and troubleshoot complex issues across API gateways, backend services, and integration layers.
- Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field.
- Experience with Apigee X or Apigee Hybrid is advantageous.
- Familiarity with Google Cloud Platform, cloud-native application development, Docker, Kubernetes, microservices architecture, MCP, tool calling, agentic AI workflows, automated security scanning, API observability, performance testing, GitHub Actions, or Jenkins is beneficial.
