Responsibilities

  • Command Intuit’s most critical incidents as the Technical Duty Officer, directing recovery, decisions, actions, and communications with business-unit and Incident Operations Center leaders.
  • Drive rapid mitigation and recovery through decisive calls on rollbacks, failovers, traffic shifts, feature disablement, prioritization, escalation, and customer communications.
  • Define and instrument real-time customer-impact signals for critical workflows and validate readiness through company-wide Customer Impact Gamedays.
  • Improve observability through SLOs, dashboards, alerting, tracing, and platform feedback based on live incident findings.
  • Own the accuracy and recurring validation of runbooks, service ownership, notification channels, escalation policies, bridge creation, and executive notification workflows.
  • Lead blameless root-cause analyses and systemic remediation across business units, tracking high-leverage actions to completion.
  • Implement incident-management, observability, automation, agentic, and self-service tooling rather than handing improvements off.
  • Provide 24x7 follow-the-sun TDO coverage, including off-hours, peak-season windows, and clean shift handoffs.
  • Coach Directors, Distinguished Engineers, Vice Presidents, business-unit drivers, and responders on incident leadership.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent work-related experience.
  • 12+ years of engineering experience, including significant experience operating large-scale, high-traffic production systems.
  • Proven experience commanding large-scale incidents in an enterprise-level or financial-services environment and leading senior leaders under pressure.
  • Deep SRE and operational-excellence expertise covering SLOs, error budgets, observability, alerting, on-call and escalation practices, incident-management frameworks, and change management.
  • Hands-on distributed-systems experience across cloud infrastructure, Kubernetes, service meshes, networking and edge systems, data stores, and messaging.
  • Ability to translate technical conditions into clear customer-impact and business-impact communications for executives and customer-facing teams.
  • Software development and scripting proficiency, including Python, Golang, or Java, plus Infrastructure as Code and automation experience.
  • Fluency in AI-agent development and orchestration, including building agentic and self-service tooling such as MCP servers and skills.
  • Experience leading blameless post-incident reviews and systemic remediation across organizational boundaries without direct authority.
  • Willingness to participate in 24x7 follow-the-sun on-call coverage, including off-hours and peak-season periods.
  • Principal-level ability to define company-wide standards, guardrails, technical vision, and operational-readiness programs across multiple business units.

Benefits

  • The role may be eligible for cash bonus, equity rewards, and benefits under applicable plans and programs.
  • The position provides 24x7 follow-the-sun coverage across the US and IDC, including off-hours and peak-season readiness windows.
  • Expected base pay is $247,500–$335,000 in San Diego or $261,500–$353,500 in Mountain View, California.
