Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain systems that enhance privacy across Lyft.
  • Lead large projects independently from idea through execution.
  • Advocate for user privacy throughout the software development lifecycle and escalate potential privacy concerns.
  • Write well-tested, readable, maintainable code and participate in code reviews.
  • Develop controls, continuous testing, remediation, and risk-mitigation solutions.
  • Partner with engineering, product, legal, compliance, and other stakeholders to enable privacy by design.
  • Suggest architectural improvements and share knowledge through technical presentations and documentation.

Requirements

  • 5–7 years of software engineering experience.
  • Proficiency in at least one general-purpose programming language such as Python, Java, or Go.
  • Experience with operational and analytical data systems such as DynamoDB, Aurora, Redis, or Databricks.
  • Skills in scripting languages including Python, Ruby, or Bash.
  • Proficiency in at least one query language such as SQL, Cypher, MQL, or PL/SQL.
  • Experience developing distributed systems and working with cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Ability to analyze systems for privacy impact and build scalable solutions for complex problems.
  • Ability to write clear, thorough, and scalable design documentation and manage high-priority projects.
  • Experience mentoring junior engineers through code reviews and project planning.
  • Experience using AI-assisted development tools responsibly or building privacy-aware AI/ML systems.
  • Preferred: 2–3 years working with privacy or security services.
  • Preferred: experience with ETL tools such as Airflow, Spark, and Jupyter Notebooks.
  • Preferred: familiarity with CCPA, GDPR, and other privacy regulations.
  • Preferred: experience with automation and creating tools for distributed systems.
