Base Salary
$175k - $210k/yr
Responsibilities
- Own and evolve quality strategy across frontend, backend, and AI services, including end-to-end coverage, performance scaffolding, and load testing.
- Lead and grow a small QA team, mentor engineers, set standards, and manage at least one direct report while remaining hands-on.
- Design scalable automated end-to-end, integration, regression, and performance testing.
- Build workload models from production usage, establish performance baselines and capacity targets, and validate critical workflows before peak usage.
- Diagnose bottlenecks across test infrastructure, networks, application services, caches, databases, and third-party dependencies.
- Evaluate AI-powered tools for test generation, maintenance, debugging, and coverage.
- Improve CI/CD integration, test observability, failure diagnostics, and pragmatic quality gates.
- Partner with product and engineering on acceptance criteria, edge cases, defect prevention, incident improvements, documentation, and runbooks.
- Perform manual QA when needed, approximately 10–20% of the time.
Requirements
- 8+ years of experience in quality engineering, test automation, or SDET roles, with experience mentoring or leading engineers.
- Experience designing and building quality systems and owning quality for a sophisticated user-facing web platform.
- Hands-on performance and load testing experience with workload modeling and analysis of latency percentiles, throughput, concurrency, and resource saturation.
- Strong experience with Playwright, Cypress, Jest, JUnit, or PyTest and building automated end-to-end suites in CI/CD.
- Strong debugging experience across distributed systems, APIs, database-backed applications, and multi-layer stacks.
- Experience with Next.js and React frontends, Kotlin or Java Spring Boot backends, Python FastAPI AI services, and LangSmith agent workflows.
- Experience defining or improving QA processes in a fast-paced startup environment and applying practical judgment across automation and manual testing.
- Cloud experience, ideally AWS, plus clear communication, attention to detail, and strong product intuition.
- Preferred experience testing AI- or LLM-backed features, including nondeterministic outputs, prompt regression, latency budgets, and graceful degradation.
- Preferred experience with application performance monitoring, distributed tracing, cloud infrastructure metrics, and internal developer tooling.
