Responsibilities
- Own OTA update systems across the robot fleet, including image building and signing, staged rollouts, rollback, recovery, and delivery to Linux modules and CAN-connected controllers.
- Own fleet management infrastructure for device identity, provisioning, hierarchical configuration, secrets, remote access, and software version tracking.
- Build observability infrastructure for telemetry, metrics, logs, health signals, dashboards, and alerting across intermittently connected edge devices.
- Maintain the Yocto-based embedded Linux OS layer, including BSPs, kernels, device trees, system services, boot paths, recovery paths, and reproducible image builds.
- Design and maintain embedded build and release infrastructure, including cross-compilation, CI/CD, artifact management, and deployment pipelines.
- Partner with firmware, autonomy, and field operations teams on integration and release requirements across robot form factors.
- Bring up new hardware, resolve field deployment issues, and develop platform tooling as an early member of the team.
Requirements
- Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Computer Science, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- 5+ years of industry experience in embedded Linux, infrastructure, or robotics platform engineering.
- Strong proficiency in Rust, C/C++, and Python, plus Linux systems programming experience with networking, IPC, process management, systemd, and device drivers.
- Experience building or operating embedded Linux distributions with Yocto/OpenEmbedded, Buildroot, or a custom BSP, including kernel and device tree work.
- Hands-on experience with OTA update systems such as Mender, RAUC, SWUpdate, OSTree, balena, or equivalent, including A/B partitioning, atomic updates, and rollback.
- Experience with fleet device management at scale, including provisioning, remote configuration, secrets distribution, and remote access behind NAT or on cellular links.
- Experience with observability and monitoring infrastructure such as Prometheus, Grafana, or OpenTelemetry for intermittently connected edge devices.
- Experience with CI/CD, containerization, cross-compilation for ARM64 embedded targets, cloud infrastructure such as AWS or equivalent, and infrastructure-as-code.
- Strong debugging ability across kernel, embedded, field, and cloud metrics systems, with independent and collaborative working skills.
- Preferred qualifications include embedded firmware, bare-metal or RTOS development, custom-board hardware bring-up, CAN/J1939 and UDS/ISO-TP systems, unreliable-connectivity fleet deployments, NVIDIA Jetson/Orin and L4T, secure boot, image signing, SOPS, AWS KMS, ROS/ROS2, Zenoh, data infrastructure, time-series storage, log pipelines, and ISO 25119 or ISO 13849 familiarity.
