Base Salary
$167k - $230k/yr
Responsibilities
- Design and build core components of the query and compute engine powering Amplitude’s product analytics
- Evolve the compute API and semantic layer to support more generic tables and downstream engineering features
- Unify the core data model for event data, profile properties, lookup tables, sessions, and other non-event data
- Improve query planning and execution performance, reliability, and scalability
- Partner with data management, marketing analytics, Session Replay, Experiment, CDP, Query, frontend, and other product teams
- Own projects end to end from design through rollout
Requirements
- Strong backend or distributed-systems engineering experience, ideally involving OLAP databases, query engines, or data infrastructure
- Experience with SQL, query planning and execution, or APIs used by many engineering teams
- Ability to make deliberate tradeoffs among flexibility, performance, and ease of use
- Track record of owning ambiguous, cross-team projects end to end
- Strong cross-functional collaboration skills
- Bonus: experience with large-scale event or time-series data systems
- Bonus: experience designing semantic layers, ORMs, or other data-modeling abstractions
- Bonus: familiarity with columnar databases or OLAP query engines
- Bonus: experience integrating a data platform with external tools or AI/agent workflows
