Base Salary
$170k - $220k/yr
Responsibilities
- Build and maintain PlanetScale plugins for AI marketplaces, agent directories, skill registries, IDE extension stores, and AI app builders.
- Own integrations with AI coding tools, agent frameworks, and platforms.
- Test the PlanetScale MCP server and CLI across Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, VS Code, and other clients, and identify regressions.
- Improve agent-facing tools and context, including tool descriptions, skills, llms.txt, documentation, and actionable error messages.
- Build skills for Postgres, MySQL, Vitess, Neki, and PlanetScale workflows.
- Find and resolve friction in database creation, connections, migrations, and query debugging within AI agents.
- Build agent evaluations, benchmarks, dashboards, and instrumentation for agent usage and performance.
- Create demos, sample applications, technical documentation, blog posts, videos, and conference presentations.
Requirements
- Daily use of AI coding agents and strong opinions about effective agent experiences.
- Experience building an MCP server, plugin, CLI, or SDK used by real developers.
- Software engineering experience with languages such as TypeScript and Go, plus APIs, OAuth, and command-line tools.
- Experience writing documentation, blog posts, or video content.
- Experience with relational databases including Postgres, MySQL, and SQLite, including schema design, migrations, connection handling, and production database operations.
- Data fluency, including designing evaluations, writing dashboard queries, and interpreting trends.
- Clear technical communication in writing, video, and presentations.
- Ability to work independently, identify gaps, ship fixes, and communicate results.
- Preferred experience includes contributing to the MCP specification or SDKs, writing agent skills or plugins, using LLM evaluation tools, building agent benchmarks, AEO or GEO, maintaining a developer audience, and working with Vitess, sharding, or databases at scale.
