Base Salary

$173k - $310k/yr

Responsibilities

  • Define and evolve API architecture, standards, governance, review processes, and lifecycle policies across Product Engineering.
  • Partner with product and engineering teams on domain models, service boundaries, object models, backend services, API endpoints, and integration flows.
  • Establish standards for OpenAPI contracts, resource modeling, authentication and authorization, multi-tenancy, error handling, retries, idempotency, versioning, and deprecation.
  • Shape API roadmaps, identify duplication and gaps, and drive convergence on shared patterns and building blocks across product areas.
  • Define reference architectures for agent-ready APIs, orchestration, data-centric APIs, observability, latency, and Data Cloud or SQL projections.
  • Lead critical cross-team API design reviews and make high-impact architecture decisions.
  • Evaluate tools for API design, testing, catalogs, connectors, and developer tooling.
  • Mentor senior engineers and managers, build API communities of practice, and communicate API strategy to senior stakeholders.

Requirements

  • 12+ years of experience building large-scale, mission-critical backend systems and APIs with cross-team or organization-wide API or platform architecture responsibility.
  • 7+ years of software engineering experience with hands-on object-oriented modeling and software design experience.
  • 5+ years of experience designing secure, consistent, scalable API endpoints that expose product functionality.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Computer Science or Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Deep experience using Java, TypeScript, or Python to build maintainable web services and APIs across REST, SOAP, JSON, XML, and Swagger/OpenAPI.
  • Experience setting and driving technical standards across multiple teams, including API governance, contract review, documentation, and lifecycle management.
  • Strong expertise in distributed systems, cloud architectures, high-throughput and low-latency services, horizontal scaling, fault tolerance, edge and gateway patterns, and multi-tenant systems.
  • Experience designing API observability with metrics, tracing, logging, and SLO monitoring.
  • Experience with AI-assisted code generation and review tools such as Cursor, Claude Code, or GitHub Copilot.
  • Familiarity with agentic AI use cases, LLM and agent integration patterns, data platforms, analytical stores, and safely exposing data through APIs.
  • Ability to collaborate across Product Engineering, platform teams, and business stakeholders, communicate complex technical topics clearly, and mentor staff-level engineers and managers.
