Responsibilities
- Design and build stable, performant, scalable software and APIs using appropriate technologies and pragmatic engineering practices.
- Own parts of the product and technology, become a subject matter expert, and resolve complex problems at their root cause.
- Write simple, maintainable, extendable code and test it thoroughly.
- Participate in code reviews, design discussions, team planning, support ticket reviews, and software process improvements.
- Estimate and deliver stories and tasks, maintain current knowledge of industry tools and open-source frameworks, and participate in the interview process.
- Help train other Software Engineers and participate in the organization’s on-call support rotation.
Requirements
- Experience building distributed, highly scalable, and highly available backend systems and APIs using Java, Python, or similar programming languages.
- Fundamental understanding of data structures and algorithms.
- Understanding of relational and non-relational databases, messaging queues, and concurrency.
- Knowledge of release process best practices for APIs and services in production systems.
- Experience with cloud-based infrastructure and technologies, preferably AWS.
- Understanding of containers, orchestration, and Infrastructure as Code, including technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes, CloudFormation, or Terraform.
- Experience with testing concepts, test tools, and integrating testing practices into the software development lifecycle.
- Degree in Computer Science or a related software engineering field, or equivalent practical experience, preferred.
- Strong ownership, urgency, drive, adaptability, and desire to learn and develop technical skills.
