- Design, build, and maintain backend systems and APIs for Backblaze’s core product at scale.
- Contribute to new product features.
- Improve system reliability and performance.
- Build tooling that helps engineers work faster and solve customer problems.
- Collaborate closely with engineering, support, and sales teams.
- Use AI-assisted and agentic coding tools with sound judgment.
Requirements
- 10+ years of enterprise Java development experience, excluding personal project work.
- Proficiency in server-side Java programming; Apache Tomcat experience is a plus.
- Strong SQL and relational database skills.
- Experience building or maintaining systems at scale, including thousands of servers and millions of customers.
- Regular experience using agentic AI coding tools such as Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, or similar.
- Comfort working across Linux, macOS, and Windows without needing expert-level proficiency in all three.
- Clustered MySQL experience is a bonus.
- Python experience in scripting, tooling, or data work is a bonus.
- JavaScript and/or ReactJS experience is a bonus.
- Struts or JSP experience is a bonus.
