Base Salary
$190k - $295k/yr
Responsibilities
- Own the double-entry ledger serving as the system of record for balances across all card programs and maintain its invariants.
- Build billing cycle close, statement generation, interest accrual, payment allocation, fees, delinquency, and charge-off capabilities.
- Own reconciliation from the sub-ledger to the general ledger and build break detection for silent failures.
- Set the architecture and determine the order in which work is built.
- Work with Finance, Compliance, and partners to define ledger requirements for audits.
Requirements
- 6+ years of experience building production backend systems, including meaningful experience with ledgers, core banking, money movement, or payments platforms.
- Hands-on experience building at least one double-entry ledger, card-processing or authorization and settlement infrastructure, or migration from a third-party processor to in-house rails.
- Strong understanding of invariants, idempotency, immutability, event sourcing, and proving system correctness.
- Strong distributed-systems and API fundamentals in a modern backend language.
- Ability to scope work independently and explain technical tradeoffs across functions.
- Preferred experience with revolving credit, billing cycles, interest accrual, APR, minimum payments, payment waterfalls, installment plans, Reg Z, or TILA.
- Preferred experience with authorization-to-settlement lifecycles, pending and posted transactions, capture, clearing, network files, ISO 8583, refunds, reversals, disputes, and chargeback accounting.
- Experience building or rewriting ledgers or issuing platforms at companies such as Chime, Stripe, Block, Affirm, Brex, Ramp, Mercury, Increase, Modern Treasury, Marqeta, Lithic, Highnote, or Galileo is a bonus.
