Base Salary
$190k - $295k/yr
Responsibilities
- Build the risk decisioning layer for card authorization and mobile wallet provisioning.
- Move fraud logic from vendor dashboards into a testable control plane with versioned rules, shadow mode, staged rollout, and kill switches.
- Build real-time detection and alerting for velocity, cross-provisioning, and device signals, including lockdown capabilities during active attacks.
- Gate servicing changes such as address, phone, email, and reship updates through risk evaluation.
- Build tooling used daily by fraud analysts and define Cardless’s risk platform architecture in partnership with Risk and Fraud Operations.
Requirements
- 6+ years of experience building production backend systems, including meaningful experience in fraud, payments risk, or trust and safety engineering.
- Demonstrated experience building risk systems such as decisioning services, rules engines, real-time scoring, or step-up orchestration.
- Strong distributed-systems and API fundamentals in a modern backend language, primarily Java, with Python used for data work.
- Ability to assess blast radius, design rapid rule shutdown mechanisms, monitor outcomes, and remain steady during incidents.
