Base Salary
$177k - $365k/yr
Responsibilities
- Define technical direction for foundational web capabilities, primarily client-side data fetching.
- Evaluate web frameworks, tooling, and patterns and identify high-impact improvements.
- Lead platform investments that simplify development and improve consistency across product engineering.
- Shape data-fetching patterns in Pinterest’s hybrid GraphQL and REST environment.
- Establish reusable abstractions, technical standards, best practices, and documentation.
- Partner with product, platform, design, and infrastructure teams on scalable architecture.
- Mentor engineers and influence technical direction through architecture reviews and cross-team leadership.
- Contribute to a high-scale web platform serving millions of users and hundreds of engineers.
Requirements
- 8+ years of web software engineering experience building and evolving client-side data architecture in large-scale web applications.
- Deep understanding of caching, consistency, latency, reliability, and developer ergonomics in modern web clients.
- Expert coding skills in JavaScript or TypeScript, with optional Python experience, and the ability to write production-quality code.
- Knowledge of Node.js, server-side rendering techniques, and GraphQL frameworks such as Relay.
- Strong experience with both GraphQL and REST and the judgment to define appropriate usage patterns.
- Experience evaluating complex systems, setting architectural direction, and leading foundational platform investments.
- Experience establishing reusable patterns, technical standards, and documentation across teams.
- Strong technical leadership, mentorship, written communication, and verbal communication skills.
- Passion for web architecture and current client-side data systems practices.
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Computer Science, or equivalent experience.
