Responsibilities
- Design, develop, maintain, and improve core z/OS platform services and operating system solutions.
- Monitor and optimize Parallel Sysplex and Coupling Facility configurations for high availability.
- Plan and execute z/OS software installations, upgrades, and maintenance using SMP/E.
- Build observability, monitor production health, resolve incidents, and perform root-cause analysis.
- Provide Level 3 support for mainframe operating system infrastructure and implement permanent solutions.
- Make technical decisions, prepare system and architecture documentation, and present solution proposals to stakeholders and leadership.
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute through code reviews, technical presentations, and internal engineering communities.
- Collaborate with DB2, CICS, MQ, operational, and global mainframe engineering teams.
Requirements
- 10+ years of experience in z/OS systems programming or a similar senior engineering role.
- Expert knowledge of z/OS operating system architecture, design, implementation, components, and subsystems.
- Comprehensive experience with Geographically Dispersed Parallel Sysplex operations and Coupling Facility management.
- Hands-on expertise with SMP/E packaging, installation, maintenance, and complex z/OS upgrades; experience through z/OS 3.1 is preferred.
- Proficiency in REXX, TSO/ISPF, JCL, and other system programming languages; Assembler experience is a plus.
- Strong knowledge of z/OS performance tuning, system utilities, monitoring, system management tools, and problem determination utilities.
- Experience providing Level 3 support for mainframe operating system infrastructure.
- Ability to document system and network designs, manage technical changes, and make long-term architectural decisions.
- Strong written and spoken English is mandatory; German language skills are a plus.
- Ability to work independently, communicate complex technical decisions, influence engineering practices, and mentor colleagues.
