
Principal Software Engineer - Developer Experience

- Set and lead technical strategy and delivery for developer productivity platforms, tools, and workflows across GM.
- Define and drive adoption of golden paths covering repository structure, CI/CD, testing, security, observability, and deployment.
- Build automation and self-service capabilities for environment provisioning, pipeline setup, guardrail enforcement, and standards checks.
- Lead the strategy for embedding AI agents, copilots, and intelligent automation into planning, coding, testing, documentation, and operations.
- Partner with product, security, infrastructure, and application leaders to translate engineering pain points into platform and tooling improvements.
- Mentor engineers, lead design reviews, and drive cross-team technical alignment without formal authority.
- Define and govern outcome-focused engineering metrics and use data to guide investments.
- Shape engineering standards, patterns, and reference architectures used across Core IT and beyond.
Requirements
- 10+ years of software development experience, including significant experience in senior, staff, or principal-level roles.
- Proficiency in at least one modern programming language, such as Java, Go, C#, Python, or TypeScript.
- Experience designing, building, and operating distributed systems in production.
- Deep experience designing and operating CI/CD pipelines and release processes, including build, test, deployment, release strategies, rollback, and environment promotion.
- Hands-on experience with developer platforms and SDLC tooling, including source control, CI/CD systems, Jira or Azure DevOps, artifact repositories, secrets management, and feature flags.
- Experience using or integrating AI/ML into engineering workflows, or demonstrated ability to ramp quickly.
- Strong systems thinking, product mindset, communication skills, and experience driving technical strategy across multiple teams.
- Preferred: experience in platform engineering, SRE, internal developer platforms, Developer Experience, Developer Productivity, or DevTools organizations.
- Preferred: experience in large, regulated, or safety-critical environments with strong security, compliance, and reliability requirements.
