Responsibilities

  • Define SLOs, SLIs, error-budget policies, instrumentation standards, and reliability roadmaps for Tier-1 customer-facing services.
  • Design and implement incident command processes, severity criteria, war-room protocols, stakeholder communications, postmortems, and incident-commander training.
  • Select and establish the observability platform and develop dashboards, alerts, runbooks, and operational KPIs.
  • Establish the SRE on-call rotation and coordinate handoffs with IBM and HCL managed-services teams providing L1/L2 coverage.
  • Instrument services, contribute Terraform or other infrastructure-as-code and platform code, and oversee CI/CD pipeline evolution.
  • Administer and scale secure, compliant Kubernetes clusters and run chaos, failover, and resilience exercises.
  • Command Sev-1 and Sev-2 incidents, lead blameless postmortems, and drive corrective actions to completion.
  • Architect and evaluate AIOps capabilities for anomaly detection, predictive alerting, automated root-cause analysis, and LLM-assisted triage or runbook generation.
  • Coach an Engineer III SRE, design future SRE roles, participate in hiring, and represent SRE in architecture, product-readiness, and executive reviews.
  • Partner with Security, Compliance, Architecture, Product, Engineering, Support, and managed service providers on reliability, security, auditability, and regulatory requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent experience.
  • 8+ years of software or platform engineering experience, including at least 4 years in SRE, DevOps, or platform reliability.
  • At least 2 years of formal technical leadership, tech-lead, or staff-level experience with mentorship responsibilities.
  • Proven experience building an SRE, DevOps, or platform engineering practice from zero or near-zero, including SLOs, incident command, and error budgets.
  • Deep hands-on expertise with AWS, Azure, or GCP, including networking, IAM, and managed services.
  • Strong CI/CD pipeline design and management experience and infrastructure-as-code experience with Terraform, Chef, Puppet, or similar tools.
  • Proficiency in Python or another object-oriented programming language for automation, tooling, and production services.
  • Experience administering and scaling Kubernetes with Docker, Helm, and service-mesh technologies such as Istio or Linkerd.
  • Hands-on experience designing observability platforms using tools such as DataDog, Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, Elasticsearch, or Kibana.
  • Experience with customer-impacting Sev-1 incidents, incident command, blameless postmortems, and follow-up discipline.
  • Familiarity with AI/ML anomaly detection, alerting, LLM-assisted triage, AIOps platforms, or agentic AI frameworks in regulated environments.
  • Ability to coach and mentor engineers, influence senior technical or operations leaders with data-driven recommendations, and communicate with nontechnical stakeholders.
  • Comfort working with HIPAA, SOC 2, FedRAMP, security, compliance, and auditability requirements.
  • Preferred qualifications include a master’s degree, healthcare or regulated-industry experience, MSP-to-internal operations transitions, hybrid hardware-and-cloud products, stateful distributed Kubernetes services, security scanning, intrusion detection, Kafka, RabbitMQ, chaos engineering, Databricks, Team Foundation Server, Octopus Deploy, FinOps, and cloud cost optimization.
