Responsibilities
- Architect and own the Linux compute platform spanning AWS WorkSpaces, WSL, and the broader developer fleet.
- Define and review Ansible automation for configuration, patching, package management, identity, and lifecycle management using staged rollouts and rollback plans.
- Resolve fleet-wide Linux, WorkSpaces, Unix, identity, package-management, container, and developer-tool issues at their root cause.
- Troubleshoot Kerberos, PAM, SSH, GSSAPI, IAM, STS, directory-integration, filesystem, and systemd problems.
- Support new WorkSpaces regions and operating-system bundles, including directory setup, image lifecycle, portal integration, and migration from end-of-life images.
- Extend monitoring and diagnostic tooling for Ansible failures and workspace health to enable proactive alerts and user self-service.
- Drive the platform technical roadmap and mentor the wider team as the technical authority for complex Unix issues.
Requirements
- 5–8+ years of Linux systems-engineering experience with ownership of production Linux fleets.
- Hands-on experience operating and troubleshooting AWS WorkSpaces or equivalent Linux VDI, including directory integration, image lifecycle, region rollouts, connectivity, and performance diagnosis.
- Advanced knowledge of systemd, PAM, Kerberos/KCM, SSH authentication, filesystems, permissions, strace, journalctl, and perf.
- Strong production Ansible experience with playbooks, roles, idempotency, staged rollouts, and peer-reviewed change workflows.
- Familiarity with apt, dnf, Homebrew, Nix-based tooling, package repositories, certificate trust, GPG signing, and repository configuration.
- Solid AWS fundamentals, including IAM, STS, and VPC networking, plus Active Directory and Kerberos literacy.
- Ability to independently investigate unfamiliar Linux, kernel, networking, and cloud-platform problems and communicate effectively during live escalations.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent hands-on experience.
