Base Salary
$230k - $385k/yr
Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and maintain Linux kernel subsystem changes supporting device capabilities and product requirements.
- Own features across kernel and userspace by defining boundaries and building interfaces and supporting components for shipped products.
- Debug correctness, concurrency, performance, power, and reliability issues using tracing, profiling, instrumentation, and diagnostic tools.
- Develop tests and representative workloads to validate performance, power, and reliability improvements and detect regressions.
- Partner with hardware, firmware, platform, and application engineers to translate system requirements into maintainable solutions.
- Prepare reviewable kernel patches, incorporate technical feedback, contribute appropriate fixes upstream, and maintain product-specific changes as the kernel evolves.
Requirements
- Substantial hands-on experience designing, developing, and debugging one or more Linux kernel subsystems, such as memory management, storage, networking, high-speed peripherals, power management, scheduling, or virtualization.
- Proficiency in C for kernel and low-level systems development.
- Strong understanding of kernel concurrency, synchronization, memory ownership, and resource lifetimes.
- Experience delivering system capabilities across kernel and userspace, including interface design and cross-boundary problem diagnosis.
- Understanding of Linux kernel development practices, including maintainable design, appropriate abstractions, reviewable patches, compatibility awareness, and regression prevention.
- Proficiency in Rust for systems programming and experience developing Linux kernel code in Rust alongside C are preferred.
- Participation in the Linux community through patches, code review, testing, bug reports, technical discussions, or collaboration with subsystem maintainers is preferred.
