Responsibilities
- Design and build advertising and marketing platform features that help eBay sellers and advertisers grow.
- Develop scalable, highly available applications, APIs, and backend services using Marko, React, Node.js, Java, and Scala.
- Own complex features from technical design and architecture through deployment and production support.
- Drive system design, architectural decisions, technical tradeoffs, and cross-team alignment for distributed systems.
- Use AI-assisted development tools for coding, debugging, testing, and code review.
- Collaborate with ML engineers on LLM integrations, recommendation systems, and intelligent campaign optimization.
- Mentor team members and contribute to technical discussions and engineering best practices.
Requirements
- BS/BA in Computer Science or a related field with 6+ years of work experience, or an MS with 5+ years of relevant experience.
- Strong experience with Java 17+ and Spring Boot or similar frameworks.
- Experience building scalable backend systems and RESTful APIs in distributed environments.
- Experience with event-driven architectures and message queues such as Kafka or RabbitMQ.
- Experience with relational or NoSQL databases, including schema design and query optimization.
- Familiarity with Hadoop, Spark, or Flink.
- Proven ability to own end-to-end system design, lead design reviews, and make architectural decisions for multi-service features.
- Experience designing scalable distributed systems and evaluating consistency, availability, latency, and cost tradeoffs.
- Experience with AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or Claude Code.
- Production experience building or integrating LLM-powered features, agentic workflows, or AI-driven automation is a plus.
- GraphQL and Federated GraphQL API experience is highly desirable.
- Open-source contribution experience is a plus.
- Strong ownership and collaboration skills.
