Responsibilities
- Build and extend real-time backend services for voice and chat AI agent conversations using Java and Python.
- Implement streaming sessions with gRPC and WebSockets, Kafka event pipelines, Redis session state, PostgreSQL data storage, and REST or webhook integrations.
- Write reviewed specifications covering APIs, data models, failure handling, and test plans before implementing substantial changes.
- Use AI coding tools for implementation, testing, debugging, and documentation while validating the resulting code.
- Develop reliable streaming code with appropriate timeouts, retries, cancellation, backpressure, bounded resources, and latency improvements.
- Create unit, integration, functional, load, and chaos tests and extend release gates.
- Deploy services through Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipelines, and add metrics, traces, and dashboards.
- Provide production support by triaging issues, identifying root causes, and implementing lasting fixes.
- Collaborate with product management, UX, SRE, security, and platform product teams.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 1–3 years of professional backend software development experience.
- Strong hands-on Java experience, including production microservices and REST APIs with Quarkus, Spring Boot, or a similar framework.
- Strong hands-on Python experience for production services, tooling, or test automation.
- Hands-on experience deploying and operating Docker and Kubernetes services on AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
- Experience with spec-driven development and daily use of AI coding tools such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, ChatGPT, or Codex.
- Preferred experience includes Quarkus, Java 21, gRPC, Protocol Buffers, WebSockets, Kafka, Redis, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, AWS services, Helm, Terraform, Argo CD, Jenkins, GitHub Actions, observability tools, resilience patterns, real-time communications, load and chaos testing, application security, TypeScript, React, and Next.js.
- Experience building shared platforms or APIs used by other product teams is preferred.
