Staff Data Engineer – Display Marketing / Bidding Systems Team (Bangkok based, relocation provided)
AgodaResponsibilities
- Design, build, and operate backend services and data pipelines supporting hotel feeds, advertising-platform integrations, and experiment data.
- Drive technical design discussions and implement production systems at global scale.
- Participate in design, implementation, testing, deployment, monitoring, incident response, and production support.
- Improve system reliability, scalability, data quality, performance, cost efficiency, and operational effectiveness.
- Write maintainable code, participate in code reviews, and contribute to engineering standards and documentation.
- Collaborate with Product, Marketing, Data, and Engineering teams to clarify requirements and deliver solutions.
- Lead incident response by identifying root causes, driving resolution, and communicating clearly.
- Participate in hiring, onboarding, mentoring, coaching, and knowledge sharing.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- At least 8 years of experience focused on backend and/or data engineering.
- Strong proficiency in Scala or another JVM language such as Java or Kotlin.
- Strong proficiency in SQL.
- Experience building and operating data-processing and pipeline systems using technologies such as Spark, Kafka, and workflow orchestration tools.
- Experience with messaging and asynchronous systems such as RabbitMQ or Kafka.
- Demonstrated ability to drive architectural decisions and improve engineering metrics and system reliability.
- Experience leading incident response and working in Agile, cross-functional teams.
- Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and systems-thinking abilities.
- Experience mentoring and coaching engineers.
- Preferred experience with Spark-based distributed data pipelines, performance tuning, query-plan optimization, external APIs or third-party platforms at scale, and advertising, marketing, or experimentation systems.
- Preferred experience with production data-quality monitoring, observability tooling, CI/CD pipelines, modern DevOps practices, and cross-team technical influence.
