Responsibilities
- Build and maintain robust, performant, user-facing Python/Django web applications supporting millions of daily users.
- Develop and ship new user-interaction functionality and scientific data backend capabilities using modern APIs and frameworks.
- Build efficient Python backend components and integrate frontend components into applications.
- Develop and maintain test suites and monitor applications for performance, security, and accessibility compliance.
- Deliver responsive, accessible, mobile-friendly code through automated test, build, and deployment processes.
- Contribute to code development standards, code reviews, and team process improvements.
- Mentor, coach, and train junior developers.
- Work as part of an agile product team to deliver high-quality user experiences.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a scientific field such as engineering or physics, or equivalent experience.
- At least 5 years of full-stack web application development experience, including at least 3 years using Python and Django.
- Proficiency with a current programming language such as Python, Kotlin, or Java.
- Experience with relational database modeling and data migration.
- Understanding of accessibility and security compliance.
- Experience with version control systems such as Git or SVN.
- Experience with Django web applications and services, JavaScript frameworks such as Angular and ReactJS, web services, and RESTful APIs is desired.
- Familiarity with Lucene or Solr search engines and backends is desired.
- Experience with semantic markup, modern web layout techniques, Selenium-based automated regression testing, Git, agile development processes, and technical leadership is desired.
- Strong verbal and written communication, teamwork, collaboration, and problem-solving abilities.
