Base Salary

$163k - $247k/yr

Responsibilities

  • Own and extend existing third-party integrations and build new integrations as the portfolio expands.
  • Design and build backend services using Ruby on Rails and Sidekiq to synchronize data between Gusto and partner platforms.
  • Evaluate and implement integration patterns, including AI agent protocols such as MCP.
  • Define technical approaches and contribute to the Integrations roadmap.
  • Partner with Product, Design, and Data Science to validate workflows and incorporate feedback.
  • Participate in code review and help establish engineering practices and technical standards.
  • Mentor other engineers as the team grows.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of professional software development experience.
  • Experience owning multi-quarter projects end to end, including scoping, planning, execution, stakeholder management, and launch.
  • Strong platform or application engineering background involving services, APIs, third-party integrations, data flows, and observability.
  • Ability to work effectively in an ambiguous, early-stage domain with an evolving roadmap.
  • Strongly preferred experience with Ruby on Rails.
  • OAuth and third-party API integration experience are a plus.
  • Familiarity with AI agent protocols such as MCP or agentic integration patterns is a plus.
  • Strong communication skills for explaining technical tradeoffs to engineers and cross-functional partners.
  • An AI-native engineering workflow using AI tools for code generation, review, debugging, and documentation.
