- Design, develop, test, and maintain backend software processors for ingesting, validating, transforming, and distributing real-time weather data.
- Develop processing capabilities for new weather data providers, data formats, business requirements, and product features.
- Design database schemas and supporting SQL objects for backend processing applications.
- Build reliable, maintainable, testable, and observable software and support deployment and operation in production.
- Collaborate with software engineers, data operations, product managers, business stakeholders, database administrators, and platform teams.
- Investigate and resolve software defects, production issues, and operational incidents.
- Write and maintain technical documentation for software components, workflows, system changes, and operational procedures.
- Improve existing software, system performance, reliability, maintainability, quality assurance practices, and team workflows.
Requirements
- Bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.
- At least three years of experience designing and developing backend services.
- Experience with Scala or Java and functional programming concepts.
- Experience developing and deploying applications in cloud environments such as Microsoft Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud.
- Experience with relational databases, database schema design, and SQL.
- Experience processing XML and JSON data, working with APIs, and using regular expressions.
- Preferred experience with event-driven, distributed, or message-based systems.
- Preferred experience with weather, environmental, geospatial, or other Earth science data.
- Preferred experience with Microsoft SQL Server and Microsoft Azure application development.
- Strong communication, collaboration, analytical, troubleshooting, debugging, and problem-solving skills.
