Responsibilities
- Lead the architectural evolution of core storage engine components and resolve performance bottlenecks in indexing layouts, serialization formats, and resource utilization
- Design, implement, and optimize Elasticsearch storage and query engine functionality
- Lead cross-organizational initiatives for observability solutions
- Drive operational and system improvements and improve architectural clarity across the platform
- Serve as a subject matter expert and technical advisor while mentoring engineers
- Triage, resolve, and review issues and pull requests with a global engineering community
- Write idiomatic modern Java
Requirements
- Strong core Java skills, including concurrency primitives, efficient data structures, and algorithms
- Experience implementing techniques to efficiently index, store, and query time-series or logs data
- Experience with one or more storage technologies such as Elasticsearch, Solr, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or Prometheus
- Ability to design and optimize high-performance, scalable database, search, or distributed systems
- Ability to collaborate across teams, work autonomously, and drive decisions in a distributed environment
- Experience using AI to accelerate development, debug complex systems, and optimize code while maintaining ownership of outcomes
- Ability to use AI agents effectively with sound engineering judgment and prompt-engineering practices
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Experience with Elasticsearch, open-source projects, data storage technology, or database, search engine, operating system, or cloud service development is preferred
- Experience designing, leading, and owning cross-functional initiatives is preferred
