Base Salary

Responsibilities
- Partner with Sales and Customer Engineering throughout pre-sales and post-sales engagements as a technical database expert.
- Lead technical discovery and align customer business and technical objectives with PlanetScale offerings.
- Design and execute proof-of-value timelines tied to agreed business outcomes and success criteria.
- Design database migration strategies and work hands-on with customers to migrate to PostgreSQL and Vitess.
- Assess workloads, analyze performance requirements, and recommend architecture, sizing, and optimization strategies.
- Build tools, scripts, and automation to accelerate migrations and improve customer onboarding.
- Create documentation, guides, blog posts, workshops, videos, and other educational content.
- Collaborate with Product and Engineering to represent customer needs and shape the platform.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of hands-on production experience with MySQL or PostgreSQL, or at least 5 years supporting customers with MySQL or PostgreSQL workloads.
- Experience with at least one major cloud provider: AWS, GCP, Azure, or OCI.
- Proven success in a customer-facing technical role such as Solutions Architect, Sales Engineer, or Technical Account Manager.
- Strong understanding of database migration strategies and tooling.
- Experience evaluating database solutions through architecture reviews, capacity planning, and performance analysis.
- Ability to write scripts and tools in Python, Go, or JavaScript.
- Experience creating technical content such as documentation, tutorials, or blog posts.
- Helpful experience includes AWS Database Migration Service or logical replication tools, Vitess, database sharding, distributed databases, Kubernetes, cloud-native architectures, Terraform, or CloudFormation.
- Open-source contributions, database-community participation, and public-speaking experience are additional helpful qualifications.
