Responsibilities
- Lead technical scoping for Shopify Payments market expansion by evaluating partner APIs, regulations, and market-specific payment methods.
- Own technical vetting of prospective processors and provide evidence for regional partner selection.
- Set investigation priorities, establish workstreams, and drive expansion and platform-support projects to decisions.
- Advise major payment partners and their engineering and product teams through complex integrations.
- Translate regional, regulatory, and technical details into clear requirements and recommendations for Product and Engineering.
- Advise on payment extension architecture, payment session lifecycles, confirmation flows, card and offsite extensions, and custom payment apps.
- Investigate escalated issues across third-party payment apps and drive platform bugs and policy questions to resolution.
- Run Attestation of Compliance and encryption certificate renewal programs from technical review through code merge.
- Build internal tooling, reporting automation, playbooks, and documentation.
- Drive certification, QA, monitoring, incident playbooks, partner technical enablement, and joint implementation plans for launches.
Requirements
- Deep hands-on payments experience as a processor, PSP, gateway, platform, or merchant payments integrator.
- Ability to think across partner, merchant, platform, regulator, reliability, and compliance concerns.
- Experience operating independently on ambiguous problems and driving investigations toward recommendations.
- Strong fundamentals in REST and GraphQL APIs, integrations, data flows, and production-data investigation.
- Ability to communicate clearly with technical partners and non-specialist internal stakeholders.
- Ability to collaborate across Product, Engineering, Partnerships, Support, Risk, and Legal while documenting decisions.
- Strong prioritization skills across expansion projects, partner escalations, and recurring compliance cycles.
- Preferred experience owning merchant-side payments integrations or launching payments in new markets.
- Preferred depth in non-North American and alternative payment methods, affordability and installment products, or payments partner ecosystems.
- Familiarity with PCI DSS, cross-border payment regulation, Shopify platform context, or commerce-platform app and partner ecosystems.
