Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain cloud services that generate, cache, and dispatch access credentials to door controllers and mobile applications.
- Develop and maintain Linux-based on-device software for access-control hardware, including hardware I/O and cloud communication.
- Design and tune distributed caching and storage layers for credential lookup and delivery.
- Own MQTT-based messaging between devices, phones, and cloud services, including message-size handling and scaling.
- Build and maintain performance-critical C/C++ components shared by cloud and device software.
- Diagnose and resolve production issues involving credential synchronization, entry visibility, and wireless lock integrations.
- Improve test tooling and CI using Docker-based test environments, fault injection, and data-integrity checks.
- Participate in architecture discussions and code reviews for credential synchronization across cloud, device, and mobile applications.
- Collaborate with mobile, hardware, and wireless-lock partner teams on cross-system issues.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
- At least five years of professional software development experience; the qualifications section specifies seven or more years.
- Experience with C/C++, including performance-sensitive code, memory management, and threading.
- Strong Python experience, ideally with Flask or a similar API framework.
- Experience with distributed systems, Redis or similar caching layers, and MQTT or similar message-based/pub-sub protocols.
- Experience working across Linux-based embedded/device software and cloud services.
- Experience with AWS Lambda, Elastic Beanstalk, EC2, S3, and CloudWatch.
- Experience with Docker and packaging or deploying software to Linux hosts; Debian packaging is a plus.
- Exposure to Go is a plus.
- Ability to debug low-level or hardware-adjacent issues.
- Experience with agile methodologies and rapid iteration cycles.
- Candidates must reside in the Greater Vancouver area.
