Responsibilities
- Design and develop forwarding features within the IOS-XR platform.
- Write high-performance C/C++ software for QoS, mirroring, Slowpath, OAM, EVPN, VPLS, SRv6, Segment Routing, and MPLS technologies.
- Implement NPU data-plane logic and translate network protocol requirements into NPU microcode and SDK interactions.
- Debug software defects using logs, core dumps, packet traces, and hardware/software interaction analysis.
- Profile and tune code to reduce latency and maximize throughput against service-provider performance requirements.
- Use AI/LLM-based tools for code generation, unit-test creation, static analysis, and debugging.
Requirements
- 7–10 years of experience in embedded software development for networking products.
- Strong C/C++ programming skills and Python scripting or test-automation experience.
- Knowledge of carrier-grade networking operating systems and forwarding architectures.
- Experience debugging complex embedded software issues, including memory-management and hardware/software interaction problems.
- Working knowledge of NPU-based data-plane architectures, pipelining, table management, and packet-processing flows.
- Implementation experience with Layer 2 and Layer 3 forwarding protocols, including EVPN, VPLS, SRv6, Segment Routing, MPLS, IPv4/IPv6, QoS, mirroring, and OAM.
- Experience or knowledge of TE tunnels, GRE tunnels, BFD, BGP Flowspec, ACLs, and Slowpath forwarding mechanisms.
- Understanding of router deployments in service-provider core and peering networks.
- Experience with ClearCase, Valgrind, DDTS, GDB, or similar tools.
- Preferred: experience with IOS-XR or similar carrier-grade network operating systems and NPU programming using BCM, Silicon One, or ezChip.
- Preferred: knowledge of TCP/UDP, IPv4/IPv6, L2/L3 networking, QoS, ACLs, and AI/ML tools such as Copilot for code or AI log analysis.
