Base Salary
$167k - $231k/yr
Responsibilities
- Set technical direction and define the end-to-end architecture for the applicant funnel from rate approval through funded loan.
- Identify and resolve systemic bottlenecks affecting conversion, latency, and reliability.
- Lead ambiguous, high-impact initiatives across Growth, Verifications Platform, Risk/Decisioning, and Lending Partners.
- Decompose tightly coupled systems into scalable, reusable services and APIs while maintaining system integrity.
- Translate product, risk, compliance, and operational constraints into maintainable technical systems.
- Improve experimentation frameworks, data-driven iteration, and AI-driven experiences such as adaptive flows and conversational interfaces.
- Establish engineering practices for system design, observability, testing, and operational excellence.
- Mentor senior and staff engineers and influence architecture, strategy, and engineering culture across Personal Loans and adjacent domains.
Requirements
- 10+ years of professional software engineering experience building and scaling consumer-facing systems.
- Proven experience operating at a Staff or Principal level and leading large, ambiguous, cross-functional initiatives.
- Deep expertise in distributed systems, service-oriented architectures, and system design at scale.
- Experience modernizing tightly coupled systems into modular components or services with clear interfaces while maintaining reliability and continuity.
- Experience with experiment-driven development, including instrumentation, A/B testing, analysis, and iteration.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for explaining complex technical topics to non-technical stakeholders.
- Track record of mentoring and developing engineers while embracing constructive feedback.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Preferred experience with Ruby on Rails, React, AWS, Docker, GitHub Actions, infrastructure as code, and CI/CD technologies.
- Preferred familiarity with onboarding and funnel optimization, customer-support technology, regulated or high-trust domains, and fintech, lending, identity, verification, or payments.
- Comfort working remotely and participating in several hours of Zoom collaboration per day.
