Responsibilities
- Own solution architecture for resilient, scalable, observable, and secure data pipelines and microservices.
- Define modernization roadmaps covering re-platforming, refactoring, and microservices decomposition with minimal disruption to live services.
- Establish standards for API design, event-driven integration, data modeling, testing strategy, CI/CD, and operational readiness.
- Architect, design, and build core services using Java, Spring Boot, JPA, and PostgreSQL or another relational database.
- Deliver real-time processing implementations using Apache Flink and/or Apache Beam where appropriate.
- Partner with engineers on code reviews, pair debugging, performance tuning, and production incident resolution.
- Own GCP operational excellence through monitoring, alerting, capacity planning, reliability improvements, and cost optimization.
- Manage technical debt through prioritization and measurable outcomes.
- Coach and mentor engineers across levels and communicate architecture decisions to senior stakeholders.
Requirements
- Substantial software engineering experience designing and delivering distributed systems and data-intensive applications.
- Recent hands-on Java engineering experience with Spring Boot, REST services, and event-driven services.
- Proven system design experience with microservices patterns, asynchronous messaging, idempotency, consistency models, caching, rate limiting, and failure handling.
- Strong SQL skills, including performance tuning, and experience with ORM frameworks such as JPA and Hibernate.
- Experience delivering cloud-native solutions on GCP or an equivalent cloud platform.
- Ability to troubleshoot across application, data, infrastructure, and performance layers and prevent recurring incidents.
- Ability to communicate architecture decisions clearly and connect them to business priorities and operational constraints.
- Experience coaching and mentoring engineers and promoting engineering quality and continuous improvement.
