Responsibilities
- Serve as the senior technical escalation point for complex hardware and software issues affecting Aurora’s autonomous vehicle fleet.
- Partner with onboard, platform, and cloud engineering teams to troubleshoot issues and drive them to root cause.
- Design, build, deploy, own, and support internal tools and services that scale VRE troubleshooting.
- Own and improve troubleshooting SOPs, runbooks, knowledge bases, triage processes, and escalation workflows.
- Mentor and develop VRE engineers and technicians and set standards for troubleshooting and tooling quality.
- Write incident summaries and translate engineering constraints into operational guidance for non-technical operations leads.
Requirements
- 5+ years of hands-on experience troubleshooting complex hardware and software systems in a live, real-time production or field support environment.
- 2+ years of software development experience using Python, Go, TypeScript, or C++, including end-to-end design, delivery, and maintenance of internal tools or services.
- 5+ years administering and troubleshooting Linux systems in a support capacity.
- Experience mentoring or developing less experienced technical staff.
- Strong technical writing skills and experience authoring SOPs, runbooks, design documents, or similar team documentation.
- Ability to work independently and make sound engineering and operational decisions under time pressure in a safety-critical environment.
- Desirable qualifications include automotive or autonomous-vehicle experience, lidar, radar, or camera sensor-system experience, monorepo or Bazel-based build systems, gRPC services, cloud-native architectures, ITIL or formal service-management frameworks, and strong computer networking knowledge.

- Hourly base pay is listed by location at $41.75-$66.75 per hour in Pittsburgh, PA and $46.25-$74.25 per hour in Mountain View, CA.
