Responsibilities
- Drive database strategy and data practices for scalability, usage, reliability, and performance.
- Perform capacity planning and database performance tuning.
- Write database migration scripts, stored procedures, and DDL, and carry out database project work.
- Manage high-risk data deployments and post-deployment monitoring.
- Consult with development teams on database reliability risks and solutions.
- Improve data operational engineering practices with data and product teams.
- Apply DevOps and SRE principles across engineering teams.
- Mentor and develop other data professionals.
Requirements
- Deep expertise in database reliability, performance, and management, including the ability to mentor and coach others.
- Strong experience with relational databases, ideally SQL Server and Azure SQL, with exposure to Oracle.
- Advanced T-SQL skills and a passion for solving complex data challenges.
- Experience with, or willingness to learn, Python, PowerShell, Terraform, scripting, object-oriented programming, and infrastructure-as-code.
- Experience with monitoring, alerting, automation, documentation, and knowledge sharing for scalable and reliable systems.
- Experience working in Agile environments using Scrum and/or Kanban.
- Ability to work autonomously, prioritize effectively, make sound technical decisions, and collaborate when needed.
- Confident communication and collaboration skills.
