Software Engineer II

- Build, test, deploy, and enhance software across the development lifecycle using AI-assisted tools.
- Contribute to prompt engineering experimentation and share effective AI tool usage with the team.
- Participate in design discussions and provide technical input for feature estimation and delivery planning.
- Develop unit and system tests while following secure coding practices.
- Provide technical support, troubleshooting, and enhancements for application and system features.
- Use logs, metrics, traces, dashboards, and observability tools to monitor system health and diagnose production issues.
- Document processes and best practices, communicate status and risks, participate in code reviews, and drive assigned work to completion.
- Deliver working, maintainable, testable, performant software each sprint and identify opportunities for automation and improvement.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline and two years of related experience, or a master’s degree with up to two years of experience, or 14 years of related experience.
- Consistent, effective use of AI coding assistants such as GitHub Copilot, Claude, or Cursor across the software development lifecycle.
- Ability to provide context to AI tools, evaluate their outputs critically, and maintain responsibility for quality and correctness.
- Working full-stack proficiency, including a backend framework such as Java/Spring Boot, a frontend framework such as React, and SQL or relational data modeling, with depth in at least one layer.
- Ability to troubleshoot moderately complex issues with limited guidance and exercise sound analytical judgment.
- Comfort with Git workflows, branching strategies, and collaborative development practices.
- Working knowledge of logging, metrics, and monitoring tools such as New Relic, dashboards, and alerts.
- Ability to explain technical tradeoffs and status clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Spec Driven Development experience is a plus.
