Responsibilities
- Own the maintenance, performance, scalability, data models, APIs, and storage of core backend services.
- Improve monitoring, alerting, automated quality checks, testing, and visibility into end-to-end pipeline health.
- Identify schema drift, contract failures, and version incompatibilities and help establish stable service interfaces.
- Contribute to backward compatibility, feature flags, staged rollouts, workflow orchestration, and operational automation.
- Turn observed system behavior into improvement work and contribute to team planning.
- Mentor engineers through code reviews and pairing while improving scoping, testing, and release stability.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of experience building and operating production backend services or data pipelines in Python.
- Experience maintaining and scaling production services, including performance optimization, observability, testing, and incident handling.
- Strong relational database skills and comfort with API design and service-to-service contracts.
- Hands-on experience deploying and operating services on Kubernetes, including troubleshooting and incident response.
- Experience using AI-assisted coding in day-to-day work.
- Geospatial data, PostGIS, raster processing, satellite imagery, workflow orchestration, AWS, shared service contracts, or spec-driven/test-driven development experience is advantageous.
