Responsibilities
- Build and extend hierarchical agent-serving architecture, LLM gateways, routing, rate limiting, circuit breaking, cost attribution, and agent workflows.
- Connect Snowflake, PostgreSQL, and internal APIs securely to agents using MCP or custom tool patterns without exposing internal infrastructure publicly.
- Implement RAG using hierarchical chunking, hybrid search, selective retrieval, vector stores, and reranking where appropriate.
- Use Claude Code and similar AI coding tools to write, refactor, test, review, and harden production code across the stack.
- Translate stakeholder requirements into structured specifications, system prompts, tool schemas, knowledge files, and agent instructions.
- Build golden question sets and evaluation harnesses to detect regressions and assess LLM and RAG quality.
- Implement governance and reliability controls including spend caps, rate limits, human approval gates, read-only enforcement, audit logging, and progressive-autonomy rollout.
- Partner with Sales, Marketing, and other departments to scope agent capabilities, gather representative questions, explain tradeoffs, and document architecture decisions.
- Mentor engineers on agent-building patterns, evaluation design, and validation discipline.
Requirements
- At least 2 years of software engineering experience with strong backend fundamentals in Python.
- Hands-on experience with LLMs, including prompt engineering, tool or function calling, structured output parsing, and rigorous model-output evaluation.
- Experience with an agent orchestration pattern or framework such as LangGraph, LangChain, a manual tool-use loop, or a comparable approach.
- Strong SQL and data warehouse skills, including CTEs, window functions, and joins; Snowflake experience is strongly preferred.
- Direct experience directing AI coding assistants such as Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, or similar, with demonstrated specification-writing skills.
- Understanding of API design, integration patterns, and data modeling.
- Familiarity with LLM evaluation concepts including golden test sets, LLM-as-judge, RAG precision and recall, and evaluation-driven development; experience contributing to an evaluation harness is expected.
- Experience with Git and standard CI/CD practices.
- Preferred: MCP, RAG architectures, chunking, hybrid dense/sparse search, pgvector or comparable vector stores, and cross-encoder reranking.
- Preferred: MLflow for LLM observability, LLM API gateways or proxy layers, Airflow or comparable schedulers, AI governance, cloud platforms, and containerization.
- Experience translating ambiguous business-unit requirements into scoped, shipped technical solutions.
Benefits
- Hybrid work arrangement in Chicago, Illinois.
- Full-time employment.
- Annual base pay range of $91,800.00-$140,700.00.
