Responsibilities
- Design, prototype, build, and test production vehicle firmware for safety-critical systems.
- Develop and optimize embedded applications in RTOS environments for reliability, latency, throughput, memory footprint, and power consumption.
- Own communication architecture between MCUs, sensors, and main compute using standard and custom protocols.
- Lead bootloader, driver, diagnostic, board, and SoC bring-up from prototype through production.
- Deploy firmware to multi-device systems or vehicles in a power-safe and fault-tolerant manner.
- Define and build automated unit, integration, and system testing frameworks and harnesses.
- Mentor embedded engineers, conduct code reviews, and help establish engineering standards, tools, and best practices.
- Lead complex cross-functional projects involving embedded, electrical, platform, and software engineering teams.
Requirements
- Typically 7+ years of experience developing embedded software for production systems.
- Expert-level C and/or C++ experience for embedded systems.
- Strong knowledge of SPI, UART, I2C, CAN, TCP, and UDP communication protocols.
- Experience developing on RTOS environments, including PX5 or POSIX/pthreads-based real-time operating systems such as embedded Linux with pthreads, QNX, VxWorks, or RTEMS.
- Experience with MCU bootloaders, device drivers, and new board or SoC bring-up.
- Experience deploying firmware to multi-device systems or vehicles in a power-safe, fault-tolerant manner.
- Demonstrated optimization of execution speed and binary or memory size on resource-constrained platforms.
- Experience with safety-critical systems and processes such as ISO 26262 is highly valued.
- Understanding of embedded software development life cycle practices including version control, code review, continuous integration, and automated testing.
- Experience with automotive or transit domains is preferred.
- Experience with automotive-grade safety MCUs, ideally the NXP S32K3 family or comparable Infineon AURIX or TI TMS570 devices, is preferred.
- Familiarity with kernel internals, low-level operating-system concepts, deterministic timing and networking, NTP, PTP, TSN, CAN tooling, and DBC-based workflows is preferred.
- Comfort using multimeters, oscilloscopes, power supplies, and other electronics test equipment is preferred.
- Python scripting experience for test automation and tooling is preferred.
About Glydways
Glydways builds on-demand urban transit systems that use small autonomous electric vehicles running on dedicated, low-footprint guideways. It designs and manufactures the vehicles and infrastructure and partners with cities, transit agencies, and private developers to deploy and operate the service. Founded in 2016 and headquartered in South San Francisco, the privately held company targets high-capacity, carbon-neutral mobility for dense corridors and campus-scale connections.
