Responsibilities
- Define architectural direction and long-term technical strategy for FoundationDB.
- Shape solutions to the team’s hardest distributed-database problems.
- Influence engineers working on the system and communicate technical vision clearly.
- Partner with platform, infrastructure, and product engineering teams.
- Help grow the engineering team and drive outcomes in ambiguous, high-stakes environments.
Requirements
- 15+ years of experience designing, implementing, and operating highly scalable distributed systems.
- Deep expertise in planet-scale database systems, including hands-on experience with Spanner, DynamoDB, CockroachDB, or comparable technologies.
- Proven ability to define and communicate long-term technical strategy across large, complex engineering organizations.
- Strong cross-functional partnership skills with platform, infrastructure, and product engineering teams.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences.
- Strong ownership and a track record of driving outcomes in ambiguous, high-stakes environments.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Preferred: experience with modern data storage systems and knowledge of security and privacy.
