Responsibilities
- Build and scale cloud programs called Actors that crawl websites and extract data reliably under load.
- Develop features and new approaches for popular Actors while maintaining speed, reliability, and usability.
- Build internal projects, shared libraries, AI-powered tools, and other tooling that improves engineering productivity.
- Write, review, refactor, and maintain clean and elegant code.
- Reverse-engineer websites, handle anti-bot protection, and design APIs for other developers.
- Own the design, delivery, and roadmap of Actors and internal tools.
- Mentor junior engineers through code reviews, pairing, and growth conversations.
- Use and improve TypeScript-based crawling, scraping, proxy, and AI-assisted engineering tools.
Requirements
- Strong JavaScript and TypeScript skills with Node.js and a solid understanding of web technologies.
- At least 3 years of professional or open-source experience on a non-trivial project built with a team.
- Commitment to code quality, readability, maintainability, and frequent refactoring.
- Experience using AI tools and understanding where they are effective and where they are not.
- Clear written and spoken English communication skills.
- Willingness to continue learning about web scraping and related technologies.
- Ability to make sound design trade-offs and structure maintainable code.
- Experience with web scraping is preferred.
- A track record contributing to non-trivial user-facing products and a habit of sharing knowledge through tutorials, technical support, or tooling are preferred.
