Responsibilities
- Design, deploy, administer, patch, upgrade, migrate, and support enterprise MongoDB environments across on-premises infrastructure and MongoDB Atlas.
- Operate MongoDB replica sets and sharded clusters, including topology, storage, networking, capacity, high availability, and multi-region resilience.
- Design and maintain backup, point-in-time recovery, failover, disaster-recovery, and restore-validation processes.
- Monitor and optimize database availability, replication, queries, indexes, aggregation pipelines, schemas, data models, and workloads.
- Implement MongoDB authentication, authorization, encryption, auditing, access management, private connectivity, and least-privilege controls.
- Develop automation for MongoDB provisioning, configuration, deployment, patching, monitoring, validation, and routine operations.
- Use Infrastructure as Code, configuration management, APIs, source control, and delivery practices to improve operational consistency.
- Participate in on-call rotations, major incident response, root-cause analysis, change management, and problem management.
- Create operational documentation and runbooks, review technical solutions, mentor engineers, and provide technical leadership for MongoDB platform initiatives.
Requirements
- 10+ years of database administration, database engineering, or data-platform engineering experience.
- 8+ years of hands-on MongoDB administration and engineering experience in mission-critical production environments.
- Strong Linux administration experience; RHEL or a comparable enterprise Linux distribution is preferred.
- Deep knowledge of MongoDB architecture, storage engines, replication, sharding, configuration, security, maintenance, and performance tuning.
- Hands-on experience with MongoDB Atlas cluster deployment, scaling, backup, monitoring, networking, access management, and migration.
- Experience with database upgrades, migrations, patching, platform changes, production releases, and troubleshooting database, operating system, storage, network, and connectivity issues.
- Preferred experience with MongoDB Enterprise Advanced, MongoDB Ops Manager, hybrid cloud platforms, MongoDB migration tools, observability platforms, Terraform, GitHub, GitLab, CI/CD pipelines, and Ansible.
- Preferred exposure to PostgreSQL, Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, or Neo4j.
- Ability to communicate with technical and non-technical stakeholders, lead technical initiatives, mentor team members, and influence enterprise platform standards.
