Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain TypeScript microservices for billing lifecycle management across self-serve and enterprise plans.
- Build payment processing and usage metering integrations for invoice generation and consumption tracking.
- Implement event-driven billing state transitions, entitlement updates, and provisioning triggers using Kafka or similar systems.
- Contribute to entitlement enforcement and provisioning workflows that configure customer organizations based on contract events.
- Collaborate with senior engineers, RevOps, and finance stakeholders to deliver accurate and auditable billing behavior.
- Write maintainable, well-tested code with unit and integration tests for financial workflows.
- Participate in code reviews, design discussions, service monitoring, operational improvements, and the on-call rotation.
Requirements
- 3+ years of professional software engineering experience building backend services.
- Strong proficiency with TypeScript and Node.js, with production service experience; NestJS or a similar framework is preferred.
- Experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL, including data modeling and query design.
- Experience building or consuming REST APIs and integrating third-party services.
- Understanding of event-driven architecture and message-based systems such as Kafka or SQS.
- Familiarity with distributed systems concepts including eventual consistency, idempotency, and failure handling.
- Experience with multi-tenant SaaS systems and tenant data isolation requirements.
- Experience deploying and operating services on Kubernetes in a cloud environment.
- Strong computer science fundamentals in data structures, algorithms, and system design.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and tools such as GitHub Actions or Jenkins.
- Experience using code repositories and collaboration tools such as GitHub, JIRA, or Confluence.
- Strong debugging skills, including tracing data consistency issues across service boundaries.
- Experience working with globally distributed teams.
- Bonus experience with Stripe, Chargebee, Zuora, Metronome, Lago, Salesforce, Snowflake, ClickHouse, Druid, AWS, Terraform, Pulumi, Datadog, Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, Docker, Kafka, CDC, or Flink.
- Knowledge of subscription lifecycles, internal operational tooling, or lightweight internal user interfaces is beneficial.
