
Software Engineer - Backend

Responsibilities
- Design, build, and operate backend services and APIs supporting data ingestion through model output.
- Build and maintain integrations with customer PACS, RIS, and EHR systems using healthcare communication protocols.
- Design secure cloud networking, including site-to-site VPNs, and onboard customer sites with their IT teams.
- Build and operate production ETL pipelines, data lakes, and data warehouses for large imaging and clinical datasets.
- Build CI/CD and deployment automation for rapid and safe releases.
- Design HIPAA-compliant systems with encryption, access controls, audit logging, and secure PHI handling.
- Build model inference pipelines for live and offline traffic and support ML infrastructure as needed.
- Own backend projects from technical design through deployment, including design reviews, testing, and engineering best practices.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of software engineering experience.
- Proficiency in Go, Python, Java, or a similar backend language.
- Strong experience with cloud platforms, especially AWS, and distributed architectures.
- Experience designing reliable, scalable backend infrastructure, APIs, data pipelines, and services.
- Hands-on experience with schema design and data modeling.
- Experience integrating external or third-party systems across organizational boundaries, including networking and security concerns.
- Ability to troubleshoot complex distributed systems and work effectively under competing priorities and ambiguity.
- Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills with technical stakeholders, non-technical stakeholders, customers, and vendors.
- Preferred experience with DICOM, DICOMweb, HL7, FHIR, PACS/RIS, and IHE profiles.
- Preferred experience building HIPAA-compliant systems or handling PHI and healthcare security requirements.
- Preferred experience with site-to-site VPNs, private connectivity, and enterprise or hospital customer onboarding.
- Preferred experience with Terraform, Docker, Kubernetes, large-scale ETL, data lakes, data warehouses, ML infrastructure, or model inference pipelines.
