Responsibilities
- Collaborate with product managers, data scientists, frontend engineers, mobile engineers, and backend engineers to understand problems and design solutions.
- Maintain, scale, and improve Depop’s search system and the infrastructure supporting search and recommendations.
- Write high-quality, well-structured code serving more than 1 million active daily users.
- Own code, workflows, and data throughout their entire lifecycle.
- Document feature development and contribute to architecture reviews, blameless post-mortems, and continuous improvement.
- Identify and solve complex problems independently while seeking guidance when appropriate.
Requirements
- Experience writing high-quality code in Scala, Java, or Python.
- Experience or interest in retrieval systems such as OpenSearch or Elasticsearch.
- Experience with distributed datastores such as DynamoDB, Redshift, or AWS Athena, and with relational or non-relational databases, preferably PostgreSQL.
- Experience with message queues such as RabbitMQ or Apache Kafka.
- Experience building scalable applications serving tens of thousands of requests per second.
- Experience with RDBMS and proficiency testing solutions at unit, integration, and other levels.
- Ability to work with machine learning colleagues and in cross-functional engineering teams.
- Preferred qualifications include experience with vector-based retrieval, ML scientists or ML pipelines, e-commerce, event-driven architectures, production AWS infrastructure, and AI applications.
