Responsibilities
- Collaborate with Product Managers, Data Scientists, Front-End Engineers, and Backend Engineers to understand problems and design solutions.
- Write high-quality, maintainable code serving more than 1 million active daily users.
- Maintain, scale, and improve Depop’s search system and the infrastructure supporting search and recommendations.
- Own code, workflows, and data throughout their entire lifecycle.
- Design, implement, and document features in a cross-functional engineering environment.
- Participate in continuous-improvement activities including blameless post-mortems and architecture reviews.
Requirements
- Experience writing high-quality code in Scala, Java, or Python.
- Experience with retrieval systems such as Elasticsearch, OpenSearch, or similar systems is preferred.
- Experience with distributed datastores such as DynamoDB, Redshift, or AWS Athena.
- Experience with message queues such as RabbitMQ or Apache Kafka.
- Experience building scalable applications serving tens of thousands of requests per second.
- Experience with relational databases, preferably PostgreSQL.
- Experience with unit, integration, and other levels of testing.
- Experience with relational or non-relational databases, preferably PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, or AWS Athena.
- Ability to solve complex problems independently and seek guidance when appropriate.
