Responsibilities
- Build and own AI-assisted applications from early prototypes through dependable production use.
- Develop across the stack, including Python services and APIs, data flows, user-facing interfaces, and supporting infrastructure.
- Build and improve LLM and agent-based workflows with prompts, evaluations, feedback loops, and safeguards.
- Translate editorial research and user testing into practical technical solutions and run experiments to resolve uncertainty.
- Integrate tools into existing publishing systems and contribute reusable components to the content-automation platform.
- Use AI coding tools thoughtfully while reviewing, testing, and taking responsibility for the resulting software.
- Deploy, monitor, and troubleshoot software while balancing quality, reliability, speed, and cost.
- Contribute to architecture, CI/CD, security, code quality, and technical decision-making.
- Collaborate with software engineers, editorial specialists, publishers, and other non-technical stakeholders.
- Travel to Groningen for one or two days approximately every two months.
Requirements
- Hands-on experience building and shipping web applications or software products.
- Confidence with Python and willingness to work across backend, frontend, and infrastructure concerns.
- Experience using AI tools actively and critically to develop faster, learn unfamiliar areas, and improve software.
- Interest in LLM-powered products and experience experimenting with model APIs, agent workflows, or similar technology.
- Ability to clarify problems, suggest options, test assumptions, and apply sound engineering judgment.
- Ability to independently own a well-defined problem while seeking input when useful.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills with non-technical specialists.
- Pragmatic and constructive approach when priorities or stakeholder views are uncertain.
- Affinity for education and interest in improving how learning materials are made.
- Experience with React or TypeScript, cloud infrastructure, containers, LLM evaluation, data analysis, or applied machine learning is useful but not required.
- Experience in education, publishing, or content systems is welcome but not required.
