Responsibilities
- Perform hazard identification and risk assessments using HARA, FMEA, FTA, and STPA for autonomous software architecture and vehicle operations.
- Derive, specify, and trace functional, technical, and software safety requirements for supervised and driverless autonomy.
- Conduct software FMEA/FTA, freedom-from-interference analysis, and code-level hazard evaluations.
- Define monitoring and fail-safe mechanisms in multi-core Linux/RTOS software environments.
- Review safety-critical C++ and Python code and robotics middleware for compliance with software safety standards.
- Collaborate with systems, software, robotics, hardware, and test teams to ensure safety requirements are integrated, testable, and verified.
- Support safety case artifacts and verification evidence for airport commercial deployment.
- Develop safety performance indicators to measure safety performance over time.
Requirements
- 5+ years of hands-on safety engineering experience in autonomous vehicles, automotive, aerospace, or industrial safety.
- Experience with autonomous driving systems or mobile robotics.
- 5+ years of software development or software safety experience in C++, Python, or ROS/ROS2 environments.
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Robotics, or a related discipline.
- Deep understanding of software safety lifecycles, ASIL decomposition, unit and integration test strategies, and static analysis tools.
- Hands-on experience analyzing autonomous vehicle software pipelines, including perception, planning, and fail-safe state machines.
- Experience working under the technical mentorship of a Principal Safety Engineer in a high-velocity agile engineering team.
