Responsibilities

  • Define and guide AI/ML technology strategy across audio processing, video processing, personalization, cloud, edge, and embedded environments.
  • Establish technical guidelines for building, training, optimizing, and deploying ML models.
  • Bridge ML research and engineering teams and help integrate models into shipped Dolby products.
  • Define architectures integrating traditional audio/video processing, DSPs, hardware accelerators, and ML models.
  • Collaborate with data engineering and QA teams on data governance, pipeline standards, and AI/ML testing methodologies.
  • Work with GPU, NPU, and silicon vendors on toolchains, operator support, performance, roadmaps, and hardware capabilities.
  • Profile models, benchmark inference, evaluate accuracy-latency tradeoffs, and apply retraining, pruning, quantization, distillation, and hardware-aware optimization.
  • Guide model porting across PyTorch, ONNX, and vendor-specific runtimes and build prototypes to reduce technical risk.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Significant hands-on experience in AI, machine learning, and embedded software engineering.
  • Strong software engineering skills, including production-quality coding, version control, testing, build systems, and software delivery pipelines.
  • Experience with at least one major AI/ML framework such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, JAX, or ONNX.
  • Hands-on experience deploying optimized ML models using techniques such as quantization, pruning, distillation, or operator fusion.
  • Experience with edge or on-device ML and constraints involving latency, power, memory, and thermal limits.
  • Familiarity with CPU, GPU, NPU, and DSP architectures and associated toolchains, including Qualcomm Hexagon/QNN, MediaTek APU/NeuroPilot, ARM Ethos, or Apple Neural Engine.
  • Experience in audio, video, signal processing, media codecs, or closely related technical domains.
  • Ability to work across model architecture and operator-level hardware performance and influence cross-functional technical direction.
  • Preferred experience shipping ML models to production on resource-constrained mobile, embedded, automotive, or wearable devices.
  • Nice-to-have experience with real-time audio/video inference, Dolby technologies or comparable media standards, generative audio/video AI models, open-source ML tools, or peer-reviewed research.

Benefits

  • Full-time position with a flexible Flex Work approach supporting where, when, and how employees work.
  • Benefits, bonus eligibility, and potential equity are offered in addition to base salary.

About Dolby Laboratories

1,001-5,000 employees

We're the rain on the roof in a movie. The music flowing through your earbuds when you're at the gym. The footsteps lurking behind you in a video game. The voice of a colleague on a call who seems to be right next to you. The sight of a breathtakingly bright and vivid sunset on your TV. Making experiences come alive through technology is what we do. It's been our mission since day one. It began with our founder, Ray Dolby, a visionary scientist and inventor. As a young engineer and music lover, he was driven to improve the listening experience. And with that simple motivation, plus countless hours of experimentation, he created a solution—a solution that was elegant and practical, highly sophisticated, and wholly devoted to the artist's vision. Even as we've become a global company, Dolby Laboratories continues to reflect Ray Dolby's values. Here, science meets art. And high tech goes far beyond computer code. Founded in 1965 and headquartered in San Francisco, Dolby has grown into a leading global innovator and developer of audio, imaging and voice technologies for cinema, home theaters, PCs, mobile phones, and games. Our products include Dolby Digital Plus, TrueHD, Dolby Voice, Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision. Today, over 2,000 individuals around the globe share their talents and energy to enable the most immersive experiences that technology can deliver.
