Responsibilities
- Audit, document, standardize, and reproduce Kubernetes infrastructure, including architecture, processes, and configurations.
- Build infrastructure-as-code deployment scripts and templates with Terraform for Kubernetes cluster provisioning and management.
- Investigate and propose hybrid cloud strategies across on-premise and cloud environments.
- Implement GitOps-based automated deployments using tools such as ArgoCD, Flux CD, Spinnaker, or Kargo.
- Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines and manage application deployments with Helm or Kustomize.
- Manage Kubernetes clusters using tools such as kubeadm and kubectl across on-premise and cloud environments.
- Design, tune, and troubleshoot cluster networking, CNI dataplanes, ingress, Gateway API, Envoy, and service mesh traffic.
- Diagnose throughput, latency, and connectivity issues across worker nodes, pod networking, and east-west traffic.
- Collaborate with peer teams, share Kubernetes expertise, and mentor others on Kubernetes best practices.
Requirements
- 7+ years of professional software development experience, including at least 5 years building and managing production-level Kubernetes infrastructure.
- Deep understanding of Kubernetes architecture, including Pods, Deployments, Services, RBAC, and the API server.
- Experience managing Kubernetes clusters on on-premise hardware and in AWS, Google Cloud, and Azure environments.
- Experience provisioning and managing Kubernetes infrastructure with Terraform.
- Proficiency with Helm, especially advanced usage, or Kustomize.
- Experience with ArgoCD, FluxCD, Spinnaker, Kargo, GitLab CI/CD, or GitHub Actions for Kubernetes application and service deployment.
- Expertise with Docker and container runtimes such as containerd.
- Production experience with Cilium or transferable CNIs such as Calico or Canal, plus knowledge of Linux networking, iptables/nftables, conntrack, MTU, BGP, kube-proxy or eBPF replacements, CoreDNS, ingress controllers, and Gateway API.
- Production experience with a service mesh such as Istio, Linkerd, or Cilium Service Mesh, including mTLS, traffic policy, and Envoy-level troubleshooting.
- Experience with Go, Python, or C# programming languages.
- Knowledge of Linux and Windows systems and scripting for both.
- Direct experience with Terraform, kubeadm, and kubespray is preferred.
- Must be legally eligible to work in the United States.
