Responsibilities
- Set technical strategy for the team on a year-long horizon and connect it to critical business-impacting projects.
- Collaborate with product management, design, analytics, and engineering teams to manage technical sustainability, risks, and trade-offs.
- Define and advocate for technical solutions and operational processes as a force multiplier for the team.
- Own system operations and availability by establishing monitoring, triage rotations, playbooks, policies, testing, alerting, and on-call practices.
- Set code review and design standards, advocate for engineering quality through writing and tech talks, and mentor engineers.
Requirements
- 8+ years of experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems at scale using languages such as Python or Kotlin.
- Extensive experience developing highly available distributed systems using technologies such as AWS, MySQL, Spark, and Kubernetes.
- Experience delivering major features or system components, deprecating functionality, and creating technical and execution plans.
- Ability to understand systems from low-level language idioms through large-scale architecture and navigate ambiguity.
- Strong track record of incorporating feedback and strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Either equivalent practical experience or a bachelor’s degree in a related field.
